
Peer Supports are individualized services that assist individuals in their recovery journey from mental health and substance abuse disorders. Peers use the knowledge and skills they gained from their personal experience to help teach skills and offer support to help people with mental health challenges lead meaningful lives in the community.
Eligibility Criteria
- No age limitations
- Medicaid enrolled
- Must have a self-reported mental health or substance abuse challenge
- Must be open to considering counseling services

Requirements for Peer Support Providers
Peer Support Specialists are required to:
- Be individuals who are currently in recovery from a mental health condition and are open to sharing their personal recovery experience.
- Complete the necessary training to become certified as a New York Certified Peer Specialist.
- Take part in continuous education and receive supervision from a licensed mental health professional.
